Who We Are
Hosted by Jason Ackerman and Jason Fernandez, Best Hour of Their Day is a show dedicated to helping the CrossFit community. We cover all aspects of fitness including coaching, training, competing, starting and growing a business, and everything in between. Regular guests include world-class athletes, some of the best coaches in the world, fitness entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and more.
Jason Ackerman (CF-L4)
Jason is a three-time CrossFit affiliate owner (Albany CrossFit, CrossFit Soulshine and CrossFit Clifton Park) with over 25-years’ experience in health and fitness. He rose through the ranks on the CrossFit seminar circuit to take a position as a Level 4 Trainer on the CrossFit seminar staff; an elite team of coaches who mentor aspiring trainers, CrossFitters and affiliate owners.
Jason graduated with a Masters in Psychology which has served to excel his natural aptitude in the art of coaching. Jason has helped thousands of people lose weight and create a healthier relationship with food. As a former competitive wrestler and bodybuilder, Jason not only knows how to achieve specific lean bodyweight and sports performance related goals, but he understands the psyche and mindset behind the process. Jason’s ability to empathize and connect personally with his clients is attributable to his own experiences and deep understanding of the psychology of nutrition.
Jason Fernandez (CF-L3)

Katie is currently a Certified Level 3 Trainer and work for CrossFit Seminar Staff teaching the Level 1 and Level 2 courses. Since starting that job in 2013, she has taught more than 200 seminars worldwide, worked as a Judge at the CrossFit Games for 5 years, and guest coached at several affiliates around the country, including CrossFit Roots and CrossFit Flagstaff.
“Hey Team! My name is Katie Powell and I currently live with my husband, Graham, and our golden retriever in Jacksonville, FL. I was introduced to CrossFit in 2009 and haven’t looked back! I have been a full-time athlete and coach at CrossFit JAX for nearly 10 years. Throughout my time at CFJAX I’ve been the Head Coach, developed intern coaches and full-time coaching staff, and managed day-to-day operations with the Owner (my sister, Meghan).
CrossFit has changed my life in so many ways – for the better! It’s more than just thrusters and burpees and PRs. That stuff is LEGIT, don’t get me wrong. But it’s losing 100 pounds, meeting friends for life, building my confidence as a woman and as a leader, giving me the tools I need to have a healthy relationship with food and with myself. It’s everything. And helping people navigate through their own journey is the most rewarding job I will ever have. I’m grateful every day that I get to be even a small part of that.”
Todd Occhiuto (CF-L4)
Todd is a Level 4 Certified CrossFit Coach, Flowmaster for the CrossFit HQ Seminar Staff, and two-time affiliate owner.
Todd began his journey with CrossFit in 2006 and jumped in to start coaching in 2008.
